From early this afternoon at Wakodahatchee wetlands. I guess the hot day kept these guys from wanting to fly around too much so he just posed for a while.

    Nikon D3, Sigmonster at 800mm, F8, 1/2500, ISO 800, Aperture Priority, Exposure Comp -1/3

Hi Oz - looks like you are getting the hang of the sigmonster!! Sharpness looks much better here!!
Good HA and eye contact - the shadow on the head area bothers me a little, also the tip of the bill area being OOF - Wonder if instead of the point of focus on the eye - you had moved it half way along the beak - might have given enough DOF to render it all in focus - depends on how close you were etc etc.
Would lighten the shadow on the head area atd.

    Keep em coming :)

agree with the comments on the great head angle and the shadow. I like how the little feather on top of its head really stands out from the bg, is that left over baby-down? I think if you can lighten/brighten the face and give some life to the eye, this will be an outstanding eye-catching image; you have great details in the feathers.

Very good advise given Oscar. I would recommend on lightening the face area just a tad and selective sharpening the eye...looking forward to your next one...

A great pose ... and lots of juice in this image to work with. Starting with the raw file, you could turn this into a keeper. Nice work!

    Great work.
Thank you. The main trick is to get a good mask to separate bird from background -- not difficult since the bird has clean edges all around. From there, just work in layers and enhance different areas as needed (rather than global adjustments).
