just need a closer bird and more focal length, paolo. exposure looks great and you got a nice pose on the bird. as is, might crop some off the left for a nice avianscape.
Hi Paolo, love the colors of the Kingfisher.
I played with the image to see if a significant crop would make a difference; unfortunately it softened it too much.
I assume you are using a 1D3 which has a 1.3 cropped screen so that your focal length was 780mm.
I have, so far love, and recognize the limitations of the 300 when it comes to distance.
Your great capture seems a bit lost against the BG as the colors are complimentary rather than contrast and cause the bird to pop. If I had the skill I would be tempted to play with the BG to see if I could make the bird "pop".
Keep 'em coming!
Cheers, Jay

"Nature Interpreted" - Photography begins with your mind and eyes, and ends with an image representing your vision and your reality of the captured scene; photography exceeds the camera sensor's limitations. Capturing and Processing landscapes and seascapes allows me to express my vision and reality of Nature.
Like the perspective and wing positions. Some more sharpening should improve the final appearance of the image.
Hi Paolo - think there may be a issue with your resizing of this image - I downloaded it to make some tweaks - In photoshop this image shows up as....
0.393 pixels per inch
6541542 inches wide
366492 inches high
Doesnt seem quite right to me.
There is a sticky above the threads on how to resize - if yo need any help PM me.
Hi Paolo
These guys are tough and I'm still looking for my first one :) Do check on the downsizing thread !!! Will make a difference in quality !!!
Great catch, Paolo!! I've only seen kingfishers twice, and they are very fast!
Hi Paolo,
I like the capture, would have liked to have seen the bird lower in the focal plane and would recommend a pano crop for this image...looking forward to your next one...
