Hello, everyone. I recently found this site and I'm glad I did. I just went out hiking today and found this bird that I need help identifying. I believe it is some kind of thrush, but I was not sure because of the spots on its wing. Is it possible that it is a juvenile?
This photo (while somewhat soft) was taken at Buttercup Farm Sanctuary in Dutchess County, NY at around 6:30 pm.
Immature birds are very difficult Derrick. It is a young thrush as Jim suggests. I have to admit to being stumped on this one but a friend who knows about land birds suggested that it maybe a young Veery because of the spotting on the upper breast.
Anyway, let's see of we can get to the bottom of this.
Thanks for the feedback so far. I didn't expect this to be such a stumper.
I just started photographing birds a little over three months ago (see soft beginner photo above), so I've only started getting my first juvenile photos the last few days. Just yesterday I was almost stumped by a juvenile woodpecker, which turned out to be a Downy.
Anywho, I'll keep checking back to see if there are any updates on the ID. Thanks for the help so far!
