This is not the sharpest image. I took it with a 2X extender and, even at f/10, I am not happy with the noise/ texture in the picture. Please let me know your opinion on the composition of the image. Bird posture, perch, background, etc..
Please note that there are no channel clipping in the PSD file.

Your comments are very useful to me. I am realy eager to learn.

    Rene,

You've got nice composition IMO here.
Perhaps it is a bit tight in the frame, but OK as is too.
Too bad for the sharpness and noise.
The colors are very nice though.
If you are puzzled by the intensive and flat yellow
w/o any clipping here's a link to an extensive discussion about the
    problem:

    Rene:

You have hit the IQ issues here, so will only comment on the composition and post.

I think the pose is fine, the lighting is uneven because of shadows from branches. The most noticeable is the shadow across the top of his head. The OOF RL corner is a bit distracting, and the vertical branch on the left is a bit more prominent than I would prefer.

I know the PSD file was OK, but somewhere in the conversion to the jpeg, resharpening for web, etc., the entire front of the bird is now clipping. A very minor reduction in contrast brought the red spike in the histogram off the right margin.

The BG is a bit busy, but OK for me.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Randy

    Rene,
This little bird seems a bit big in the frame for my tastes. Also, did you do some PP on the perch? There seems to be an odd border between the upper and lower surface of the branch below the bird.

I agree that it is a bit big in frame. Nice comp. otherwise but as you stated , it needs to be sharper.

I like the angle here, and the yellows really stand out. Another round of USM may work.

René, do you use RAW, and if so which RAW editor/converter do you use? I ask this because I use Lightroom, and the odd effect you have running along the bottom edge of the perch is the result one gets when being too agressive with the "Fill light" tool in LR.

Thank you for the comments. I had not even seen this dark area below the branch. I use Lightroom and often apply the fill light function. I will have to be more carefull.
