    Default Gator Time

Took a pic of this gentle looking animal while cruising around
in Shadle's boat. I did feel a push while I was trying to take
the gator's picture, but James swear it wasn't him :p

Good idea using the long focal length. It gives you a nice low angle to the gator. Pano crop works well with this image. I might have liked the eye off center in the frame, perhaps a bit more room in front of the nose. Not the best light to work with but handled well...

    Thanks D.

I just updated the pic. I added some canvas on the right and cropped a little off
the left to bring the eye back a tad.

    Doug,

As Robert mentioned, the long focal length gives you less angle to the subject and makes it look like you are at eye level in the water which is not always advisable with gators. Good move doing that.

When I do this type of shot I try not to include too much OOF FG and would suggest here that you crop more off the bottom. I have done so below and left a ROT mask on the image to show what I did. You could place the power point at the eye but that eliminated the two nice scales sticking up on the back. I usually frame these a bit looser and then experiment with crops back on the computer. Of course what I did here is not the only way.

A strong image from the get-go that can be strengthened with some creative cropping. Nice work seeing this image.

Living in Cleveland, I got excited just seeing a palm tree. You
could imagine how I felt seeing a gator :)

You mentioned a ROT mask...I have this friend :)...what does
ROT stand for? Also, he wants to know how he can do that to
his own images. This is for my friend...of course.

    Thanks
