Thats what this Skimmer chick seemed to be thinking. Tough , directional light , but had to shoot it anyway.

    Joe,
Very neat image. I don't mind the light too much, as the direction brings out a lot of texture. The bokeh is a bit rough looking because of the contrast though. The top of the chick's head blends a bit, but that might fit with the monochromatic feel of the image and the sense of camouflage. I think it would be nicer without the stick and rough ground on the left, as it is high contrast and slightly out of focus and so distracting.

    Hope this helps!

I agree with you, regardless of the lighting, this is a sweet image, especially having the chick right next to the broken egg shell. Great titile.

Joe, I saw one of these today-but couldn't even get close enough for a shot. I like the composition w/ the inclusion of the egg, and agree w/ your self critique.I might take a slice off the top. Thanks for sharing such a "new" moment.

Cute one! For me the chick doesn't stand out very well and some more of the top of the image could be cropped.

In line with what the others are saying and my own comment about the bokeh, I think this sort of composition with so much space on top really requires that the out of focus area be attractive. Where it is harsh here it detracts.

    Hope that helps!

He should be wrapped in cotton :)
Agree on your self critique about the light, but how can you resist?????

A pano crop may help here.

Not great conditions but still a nice story and image.

Clever title, and you have done well considering the lighter BG. Well done for capturing him next to the egg. Taking off the top will improve the comp.
