Would have loved a cleaner BG = these guys are pretty secretive - always high up in the tree's which makes life difficult.

    Matrix Metering
    Tripod

This was taken during a dry run - testing how low of a shutter speed I can shoot the sigmonster at and still get a reasonable hit rate - at 1/30th success was about 45% a little low for my liking - should have increased the ISO to 1600 but then I wouldnt have known my limits.

    Comments welcome.

Great bird and I am hanging to see one for the first time. I would try and sharpen it more.

    Agre with Akosh about sharpness,
I don't think the BG is too distracting.
The colors on this bird are fantastic.
    Such a great looking heron

Consider that these birds like to be up in the tree you really have a good angle here, not steep. The top right leaf in the background is a bit distracting. Agree with more sharpening on the body.

Love the color and the big bright eye. Did you do some work on the eye or is it really that bright?

great looking bird, great pose, awesome exposure and did well minimizing that busy bg in PP without going overboard. the feathers do seem to lack some of the detail that the eye has? or are they smooth like that?

you trip me out with those low shutter speeds and great pics. you know you are not setting a good example for all the kiddies!!!!:D

Mr. Peters, this is a sweet capture, I like the image and the composition...I like it as is...the background does not bother me at all...I like the sharp eye and the spot on head angle...good show...not bad for an f/5.6...:D:cool:

Lance, I can only hope to capture one of these and knowing your Photoshop ethics, this is quite nice in it's natural state!!:)

wonderful colors in this image! I like the perch, sharp but not distracting. I especially like the little wet marks left by its toes.
