    Default egrets

EDIT, sorry this is obviously not an egret its a gannet ;) lol I was working on another pic of an egret and had that in my head

from a recent trip to cape st. marys bird reserve in Nfld Canada

I waited for a long time for the 3rd bird to leave as that would have improved the pic but no luck she was sticking to her nest

    Canon 1D MKII
    Sigma 500 F4 + 1.4TC
    ISO 320, F8, 1/640

Ever thought of cropping it so that you have a portrait of the two birds touching bills?
I think it would work nicely.

Lots of potential here Jamie, the interaction being foremost among them. I find the blue BG a bit overpowering, and would have liked more eye contact with the bird on the right. You might have achieved that with a bit of a move to your left (which may or may not have been possible). A bit of S/H might even out the strong light and result in a stronger overall image.

    Cheers!

the pic above is already a massive crop so if I crop it for just the heads its going to be pretty much a 100% at even this small pic :( there was a 100ft cliff preventing me from getting closer :)

once I get a better understanding of photoshop I might be able to pull it off :D

yeah I think I overdone it a bit with the BG color like you mentioned

couldn't go much further to the left unfortunately due to the cliff

you think this works better ? used - highlights + shadows and +f recovery in lightroom

Hi Jamie, I think you've gone a bit too far and made the whites gray, and the overall photo a bit too dark in the repost. The BG is still overpowering. You might try brightening it up at this point.

    Cheers!

I like the original better. Wish the eye of the right hand bird were visible.

Stunning moment, congrats! I'll be there in 2 1/2 weeks for a few days. I see the sun angle wasn't optimal here, what is the best time of day? I know Bird Rock kind of faces East, so it's probably tough. Second is better, but a little rich on the yellows. Get some good flight shots?

Ed problem #1 is finding a good day to go there when its not foggy !!! I watched the weather for 6 days before I decided to head out there from St. Johns

This was from later in the afternoon around 3pm, the weather forecast changed so often so it was late before I realized it was a good time to go because the night before it said it was going to rain.

There are 2 eagles there FYI, one is a juiv, as you start walking out there from the welcome center are 2 of them hanging out down over the cliffs, unfortunately by the time I realized this it was getting pretty dark so I did not get any pics I was happy with :(

I got some 1/2 decent flight shots check here http://tekkie.smugmug.com/gallery/87...77084717_QWMn4

I am originally from NFLD and I didnt even know about this place until I got there a few weeks ago :( for sure the next time I go back I will go there for a few days. I hope you have fun out there.
