Nice contrast between the darker bird and the light blue sky. Would like the bird just a bit lighter. Comp.is great as well.

    Nice capture Arsdel,
I agree - this is not an easy species to get close to. I like the composition, and feel the worn tail feathers give the bird a lot of character. I do however wish for more detail in the face and eye. It seems the point of focus is just in front of the head (i.e, on the back).

Very interesting character that bird :)
We've had one in the neighborhood but no images yet.

The sky may use some res in it to take away the cyan cast and if you works on the catch light the eye would look sharper.

Usually spotted on the ground, so nice to see one perched. The subject does, however, look a little dark.

Nice to get one on a perch! It does look a little underexposed, and the head could use a bit more sharpening. Darkening the sky a bit might help with perceived brightness of the bird.

Agree with comments on focus. Seems like it is in the middle of the back - wishing the face were sharp. Would others trade off a DOF for shutter speed here to resolve? I ask because I wrestle with the same issue sometimes.

Hi Arsdel, I like the pose showing off the back of the bird. Good eye contact. I have several of these visiting my feeders and I must say you have captured a better image than I have been able to. Good show! The browns of your bird seem a bit off to me to what I am used to seeing. Perhaps reducing the reds a bit and lightening a touch? I also agree with Fabs that the sky color could also use a little adjustment.
