Default Red-shouldered Hawk feeding her 3 chicks.

    Everglades NP. Florida.
Taken from Joanne William's fotoboat. Would have wished for higher perspective (I was perched on the poling platform already) and a cleaner BG, but that is their environment.
    D300 200-400+1.4 ISO 400 f/8 1/400s@550mm.

    C & C most welcome.

    Cheers

    Marc:

I am ok with the perspective. The lighting is what holds the image back IMO. Lots of bright foreground areas, yet the birds are quite shaded. You might try to burn in the bright foreground material and have a go at selectively lightening the birds. Very easy to make it look artificial, but worth a try.

Timing on exchange of the food is excellent. HA is a bit of a concern, but that is tough on group shots like this.

    Thanks for sharing.

I am pretty impressed that you could get this sharp a shot at 1/400 perched on a poling platform.
I get focused on the eyes of the baby's and that's what makes the shot to me.

Perfect timing! DOF is pretty good. I think the time of day and the light angle are what detract from this image a little. Any chance to pay a return visit at a better time of day?

I'd love to return sometime again Doug, I do live in Sydney, Australia however, the 20+hr flight is a real killer!
This image was taken around 9.30am and I wouldn't have thought the light to be as harsh as it appears in this case??

    Cheers
