    Default Shadows

I believe this dragonfly is a dot-tailed whiteface. I was attracted to the shadows, particularly the shadows of the veins in the wings. But I think the image fails because the shadows are too indistinct. And perhaps the whole idea was just misguided. As always, I appreciate the comments of the list members.

Well Kent i think you did a fine job under those lighting conditions . Looking at Dragonfly wings theres not much to get a shadow from and you probably got the maximum of what you could. Well Captured :)

Hi Kent. I love the composition and the shadow play. Always tough to get a good exposure in this light and I would suggest lowering the contrast a tad with a curves layer. I saved a preset that I called "anti-contrast" that is just a reverse "S" curve that works well for this. I think it would make this image more pleasing to the eye. I think I'm seeing a slight purplish cast. Could be remedied with a color balance adjustment.

    Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kent Do like the idea and hope you keep experimenting !!!

Wonder if any fill light would have help without affecting the shadow ... probably not and the shadow is the key ... this will work just as well with the light behind you !!!!

Hi, Kent, I really like this image, especially the shadows - they are subtle and the bottom half of the image
has a nice b&w effect that I like a lot.:)

Thanks very much for your comments. I'll be working on this image a bit, trying to incorporate some ideas you've given me.
