Default As the curtain opens, a stare emerges.

Another of the many Luna Moths from last week's vacation at the cottage. On one particular morning this one was one of four(!) perched on the exterior wall, and conveniently at eye level too. It stayed there all day...providing some good macro opportunities.

    Canon 40D + Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 @60mm + 36mm extention tube, 1/100s., f/6.3, ISO 800, +0.7 EC, natural light, handheld, full frame.

Wow, Daniel, if you weren't a moderator I think I know what my pick for IOTW would be! That is really something! You have to really look to the corners to see any loss of quality in the DOF and I bet part of that is just from the jpeg conversion. My one suggestion (and it's pretty darn minor) would be to deepen the blacks so they really punch against thosegreens and yellows.

    That is really quite something...

Very cool caption for a beautifully designed image. Texture puts it over the top for me.

Hey Daniel, very cool comp, good details and would agree maybe a tad more contrast to make it pop.

Beautiful detail of this magnificent moth. You caught the fine hairs of the wing scales nicely. The eye spots give it a Buddha-like "gaze".

Very nicely seen and photographed, Daniel. I like the colors, lines, and textures you captured here (and your previous post was outstanding also :) ). I wonder if those eye spots really work to startle potential predators?
    Well done.
