Uh, very nice, the bird is great with nice inquisitive pose.
The perch however is a killer, altogether with the vine.
    Congrats!

Great exposure, BG, pose, and sharpness. I love the grape vine on the perch, though I think the perch might be a little too dominant.

    Well done!

Oh man the perch is quite spectacular! Nice pose from the Goldfinch too, the open bill adds alot. I had a hunch the yellows were a little warm, and in PS the red channel shows as clipped on parts of the bird. Desaturating only the yellow channel by 8 points fixed that while still retaining good vibrant saturation. The exposure is good, but some fill flash surely would have helped with the black wing. Overall a very appealing image :-)

Great pose and interesting perch. I agree with Daniel on his color recommendations. Although having the vine adds an interesting twist to the image, somehow, it seems to overpower the bird.
    Beautiful BG.

I especially like the perch in this shot, especially the vine, for me it really adds to the beauty of the composition. I would agree with the point on the yellow colour. All in all a great shot and one that would make a lovely framed print.

Spectacular perch and and background. I like the exposure and colour as it is, I'm not sure that flash would have enhanced the image, I like the natural light, even if it is at the expense of slight detail loss in the black.

Ditto perch & BG. Image is well exposed albeit a tad lacking on detail in the blacks. I'm with Chris in that I'm not so sure that flash would have enhanced the overall image. Great image!

Super pose and comp and a super looking bird with lovely colours . Lost a bit of feather detail in the blacks.

Beautifully composed with the perch and the vine. Bird nice too....and the bg is killer. I'd get rid of the partial leaf, llc.

Those yellows are really striking, and makes the finch stand out so well. Wonderful perch, and what a superb BG. I would maybe take a bit off the bottom, to the underside of the perch. That doesnt distract from a fine image, and congrats.

    Hey Mike,
Most stuff covered but I like the entire perch. yeah, it's big......but it is a small bird. Fill flash....maybe....leaf on LLC....probably if it was mine......if I'm not mistaken this is the NJ state bird......and i don't have one nowhere near this good!......so it's a keeper for sure.

Cool perch and vegetation, I also like the composition, BG and sharpness. The yellows look good on my monitor but I would try to get more details in the blacks on the wings. Is the perch a setup?

Hey Axel, yes this is a backyard setup. I sit in a blind and move my thistle feeders near a variety of perches and they hit the mark from time to time albeit usually briefly. I have a camo burlap clamped onto the fence behind the image and Trumpet Vines that grow up the fence. If I want a certain amount or brown or green in an image to compliment it I move the burlap around and re-check what it looks like TTL.
I want to mention that I used NIK software to do a tonal contrast on the stick itself to show a more creased/weathered look.

P.S. I was using flash on my series, but the battery went low and was flashing about once every third flash attempt... at -1 2/3 EV. The ones that the flash went off didn't have as good a pose or eye contact so we saved this one.

Great image....You know I spend all winter feeding these guys expensive niger seed, then they get their beautiful spring mating plumage and immediately blast off to pose for you...doesn't seem fare! lol At least you do them justice. My eyes find no flaws. What a great perch!

Wonderful one, the BG and the vine are excellent.
For me, the perch is a little to big.
