I'm not sure if this qualifies for "last light" even though it was - because I used fill flash. Anyway, it's a Pileated Woodpecker that has almost fledged. A second bird is visible in the nest. The birds seemed quite unfazed either by myself, or by the loud and intrusive road works, with heavy equipment, going on just a few metres away.

    D300, Nikon 300 f/4 AF-s + 1.4x TC. 1/160, f/5.6, ISO 640. Moderately cropped.

i like the pose of the bird waiting for some food. the exposure looks good too. is this a large crop? seems to have lost a little detail in the bird and there is some noise in the bg. might desat the reds a little too. i like the compo.

    Hi Richard,
I like the composition and capture...agree with our resident Doctor on the red channel being a tad over saturated, and a little noise reduction in the background...looking forward to your next one...

Hi Richard I think there is some quality loss due to the crop? In full frame would be one fine image !!!

Agree with all suggestions above. You have a good detail inside the bird nest which is a plus for me.

Basicly what has been said above Richard with one more nitpick , think that if your up to it you could remove the OOF branch but its just a matter of taste. Well Captured

Agree with all that's been said above. You captured a good moment. The inside of the nest seems lit up. Can you get the lens more "eye level' with the nest next time?
