Jim, Hope he's not hurting the Ewe.:(I can't help it I'm rooting for the Ewe!!
Nice action pic Jim ! What is the breed ? Belgian ?

Thanks. This is a Belgian Tuveren.
I'm actually quite conflicted about herding. There are so many sides of the story to consider.
Yesterday though, a young dog got a bit out of control and a sheep ended up with a broken neck after running into a fence post. It was almost enough to send me home for the rest of the day.
Then again, a dog got crushed by a gate when a sheep decided not to cooperate (just soft tissue damage, she'll be fine) so I guess things happen on both sides of the equation.
I can't help thinking that nothing should have to die so someone can win a ribbon. However, this farm has been hosting herding trials for over 8 years and this was the first time a sheep was lost during competition.
Another thing to consider is that many of the dogs that are herders, Border Collies for example, don't do well in a domestic situation where they don't have a "job" to do. Herding keeps them in check and out of shelters in many cases.
Jim, I've heard that too.
Hi Jim Feel for those sheep I always had the impression they had to be panicking !!!
Thanks for the extra info Jim. Most useful. :) No wonder our Cattledog x Kelpie is a little busy bee, always full of beans.
Nice action shot BTW!
Great action Jim...I like the capture...it tells the story...
The looks of ewe and dog tell the story. It must be quite stressful for the animals.
Wow this tells quite a story and My heart goes out to the sheep as the fear it must be feeling at being chased. Thanks for sharing this with us Jim and I hope all are doing well !!!
I guess it's part of "life", but It does look like the ewe is in total panic.
