A quick one from my backyard yesterday afternoon. These guys are tough with sharpen - all the very fine feather detail makes it look over sharpened very easily.

Reason: darker on screen than should have been
Hey Mr. Peters...I like the capture, the colors and details are very nice...is this one of your pets, or from the wild that came to pay you a visit...:D:cool:
Due to the DOF it is hard to tell, but I think you could use a little contrast for this. I played with it and given the subject and the DOF it was a hard one to judge. The subject being so bright by nature. But this is an example of the image with a little contrast added. I tried to use the grass for comparison... you have to use your eyes and memory of what was there! :D Don't know who green your grass is this year! :D
Hi Mark ... that grass must be on steroids :) Lots of saturation .. I'm sure it closer to the original but as you say you need to be there to judge the color !!!
Beautiful bird Lance ... sure wish I had them in my yard !!!!
Hi Lance,
I think the colors inthe OP look more right. Agree about these guys being tough to get right. But we have them EVERYWHERE in the SE. Just to make Al and co jealous a bit. :D
Well handled Lance. I like it a lot, with the exception of the tight RHS. THough they are long and thin birds after all.
Why don't I get birds like this in my yard Lance? Maybe it's because I live in New Mexico USA and you live in Australia. Nicely captured. Perhaps a black point adjustment to the bird and a little burning of the foreground. Subtle changes, but I think the bird will have a bit more visual pop.

I found this image very bright. So, I opened it up in Camera Raw. Strangely enough, although the histogram looks ok on the highlight side, there actually are some small spots of 255 in the grass and some feathers just before the tail have the green touching 255. On the shadow side of the histogram, it shows not enough darkness. IMO, unless the real bird and the grass do look that bright and the colors that vibrant, and that you want your final image looks like as presented, I think this image could use some color de-saturation and slight reduction of contrast. All these based on what I see on my CRT monitor, of course, and not me in Australia. :)
Desmond and Doug - the colours on the bird are about right from what I saw at the time - agree the foreground could do with a bit of burning - they are tough to get right with those extremely fine feather details and the really bright saturated colours.
