This is the RUfous Hummingbird male that has taken control of one of the feeders in my yard. He displaced a male Calliope Hummingbird that was king for the last few weeks. He obviously didn't think much of my photographic efforts this morning...what do you think?

    Canon 50D, 500 f/4 with 1.4x, ISO 400, 1/800s f/5.6 EC+0, tripod, BWG-HD MkII gimbal head, no flash

Comments and critiques are much appreciated, and thanks for looking!

    Cheers!

I think it needs a reduction in contrast, sat, burn the branch some and remove the noise from the background and you will have a stronger image. More dof to have the tail in focus would have been nice too.

I like the tongue, head angle and posture.

Thanks Mike! Here's a repost...obviously I can't do anything with the DOF at this point.

    Cheers!

Cool to see the tongue, the repost looks much better. I like the details and head angle and might even out the BG in the upper left.

Brilliant detail and colours on the hummingbird, especially around his neck. Well timed to capture the tongue.
