oops, forgot the rest of the post
I took this yesterday morning at 8:00. This is not my favorite image of the set, but is typical of the problem I am having. It was significantly overcast, I used the tripod and remote shutter release, and tried to get the speed up as much as possible. But the image looks flat and lifeless to me, and there is a hard shine to the coats, especially on the doe.
What am I doing wrong?
To post to the WEB you need to convert to sRGB. If you leave it in RGB or ProPhoto RGB it will show up flatter unless you are using color management in your browser.
Bill
Bill, this is sRGB
Is there ever a time to use RGB?
When you get pictures printed, do most stores use sRGB or RGB?
I downloaded it and when I opened it in Bridge it said it was Untagged and RGB......
If you are doing your own printing there are printers that can use other than sRGB. Most, but not all commercial printing is done in sRGB. It is always best to check with the ones doing the printing how they want them submitted. Most will be sRGB but some will want 240dpi and others will want 300dpi.....etc, etc.

Bill, I have my camera set for RGB. But when I saved this image, I used Save For Web. I thought that saving that way automatically puts the image into sRGB. It doesn't???
I just ran a ProPhoto through and saved it as jpg using save for web....it showed up as untagged. One may assume that it is sRGB I guess but I don't know for sure...hope someone else can jump in here.
Going back to this.....I feel it is best to edit mine in ProPhoto or aRGB at 16 bit tif. This will give you a wider color gamut...after I am done if I am sending it to the WEB I will convert 8 bit jpg. I have seen where doing it this way will give smoother color transitions. I hardly ever use the save for web function as it strips the EXIF from the photo. When this forum was started it was recommended to do this as they only allowed very small file size to be uploaded. They have since changed the file size to <200K so the little extra space that the EXIF takes up is not a problem.

I did find this on untagged....

Hi Cheryl
Depends which version of PS you are using, CS4 will convert to sRGB.
Tech wise you don't need that much shutter speed for the lens you are using, on a tripod 1/60 will be fine !!! Would also stay away form the remote release ... if you have any action you will never get it !!!
why will I miss action with a remote switch?
On the subject of remote releases = Phottix have a new wireless VIDEO remote release - up to 100M from your camera - 2.4 inch LCD display on which you see what the viewfinder sees :)
Hi Cheryl,
I like the composition...all of the techs. have been covered reference the color conversion...looking forward to your next one...
