This is the Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor Hawaii.

It has an interesting design as some of you may know. The design is very symbolic of the events that unfolded at the time of the sinking of the Arizona on Dec 7, 1941.

The memorial lays across the hull of the ship, but does not touch any part of it, in reverence to the tomb of the many servicemen aboard her.

The shape of the top of the memorial represents the height of America, prior to the attack. The low point is over the hull and symbolizes the feelings of American following the attack and sinking of the ship. Then the other end rises to represent the triumph of victory in the Pacific.

The windows on the sides and top, there are seven on each side and on the top, represent the 21 gun salute.

On the far end is a wall of names of all those lying within the ship.

The independance we celebrate is based on others who faught for it and continue to in order to preserve it for all of us. Remember them on this day and celebrate your freedom for it is a charished right not to be taken lightly.

Have a safe and enjoyable 4th.

Very nice detailed explanation. A lot of thought went in to creating this memorial. I would love to go see this site. Thanks for sharing this Mark, I really like it!
