    Default Bird Rock view

Just got back from Cape St. Mary's, Newfoundland. This is the view of the Bird Rock gannet colony from the observation point.

I used a gradient mask to simulate a graduated ND filter, which had the effect of darkening the sky. Full frame. I wanted to give the feeling of height and that you are "on the edge".

John , great view. This is on my list of places to go including Gros Morne. You have conveyed the feeling very well.

I don't like heights, yet this image provides me with the sense of awe that you expertly created. Thanks for sharing John. :)

Hi John Love that view .... got a clear day :)

.... fun sitting at the end with your feet dangling down !!! On one of my trips we had someone almost loose a 500 & tripod over the edge ... right at the rock you see to the left Lens slid down and miraculously stop before going over the edge !!!

Ouch Alfred! Remarkably and thankfully, people have not been lost over the edge either, although yesterday someone decided to climb down to get close to the cormorants- not a good idea.

The weather this year in eastern Newfoundland has been very favourable. I hope it keeps up because the week after next I have to fly over all the gannet colonies and make aerial images for counting. Next week I'll fly the Quebec colonies with colleagues from there. I dare say an image might be posted to BPN from one of these overflights!
