While capturing more conventional images of males roosting in trees from a small boat I glanced up to see this (juvenile I think) just coming in to land.

I love the configuration of the bird, but it is a little lacking in punch, and I would appreciate suggestions of how I could have done better. Then I can go back to Baja and try again!
Stephen I can't really see your image that well on my computer and it appears that the beak out line may be a little soft. I you take the cloning tool with a med soft edge and rework around the beak it will help to pop the image, also you can take the dodge tool and highlite the catch light in the eyes and if you like you can also take white paint at about 1 pixel and put a dot inside the dodge area to give the catch light a little more punch. Nice photo
Hi - love the pose - the wing and the detail under the wings is really nice.
The whites on the beak are a pushing the envelope a little - easy to recover via a multiply layer in P.S.
Would have preferred a little more eye contact or the inclusion of some of what the bird was going to land on.
Might have stopped down a little for some more DOF - Had shutter speed to burn.
Hi Stephen,
I like that landing pose, I like the spread wings with the fine details...agree with Mr. Peters on the warm bill...I like the baby blue sky...looking forward to your next one...
I like the shadow detail, these birds are almost impossible !!! The beak is a little over but could be fixable ... sometimes you need to borrow one from another bird but should be disclosed.
Not sure why the settings? For those landings you need 1600 or more and stopping down for dof !!!
