    Default Puffin with sandeels

    Hi everyone,

During my trip to Ireland I tried to find some puffins as I really wanted a puffin shot with sandeels in its beak. I found one with its beak full of them, however it was positioned behind a small rock the BG didin't look to smokin eather since there were only rocks behind it with birddroppings creating a less than ideal BG IMO. There were some plants just behind the puffin that were the only way of getting close to the shot I had imagened. Due to the rock I had to crop like this. At the moment it was slightly overcast so I decided after a few without that maybe flash would work better to get all of the colours out nicely. This is the result. Do I have to do some more work to the eye??

Please let me know what you think,

I like the details, exposure control, BG and the sand eels put it over the top for me. It's pretty hard to count how many he caught. :) I would probably lighten the eye.

First thing I noticed was the eye itself. Just looks lifeless. A little lighter yes, probably much better. Great little fisherman you got. I like the overall image design Krijn.

Incredible markings, colours, and detail on these guys. They look pretty greedy too. You have nailed the exposure nicely, and this is sharp. I agree to try and lighten the eye. Great capture.

ditto on the eye but super exposure otherwise, and sure looks like his eyes are bigger than his mouth :)

Nicely composed, full of color and impact. How did you like the performance of the 50D in this situation? (Looks good to me!)

Lovely, great moment, comp, detail, soft light, colors and exposure. My only exposure would be to brighten the eye a bit more.
    Congratulations!

Terrific portrait, full of energy. Agree with Ramon on lightening the eye. If the light hits them the right way, the eye could be very light.

Ramon's comments here are spot on. IMHO would try yo add a subtle highlight to the eye.

Other than above comments, I really like what you did with the colors.
You have red and blue very nicely composed. I like it a lot!

Killer pose, crop, sand eels, COMP, EXP, and SH. The trick here is to lighten the iris a bit without overdoing it.

No copy cat here. This "try yo add a subtle highlight to the eye," and this, "lighten the iris a bit without overdoing it," are two entirely different things. Gotcha! :) :D :)
