    The problem with overcast conditions and dark colored birds is that the background, especially if it is the sky, will be too light, and even high key. I personally like it, but I can see the other point of view. Duckweed alert.
    You ever notice parts of tail feathers on certain herons and egrets always seem to dip into the water? Could this be a sensory method to detect vibrations on the waters surface behind them?

    I like the details and walking pose and wish the head were angled toward you. Was a lower angle possible? I would probably darken the duckweed and/or make it look greener.

    Super sharp detail Bill, and the heron stands out very well against the weed. Axel's suggestion to darken it with a bit of colour will work. Well captured.
