looks like a nice in flight pose to me Gary.....may be a bit centered.
Not sure you actually needed the -EV as this white egret looks a bit
dark. A long way from the right of the histogram, as I see it.

This repost is still a long way from the right, but for my taste
is a better presentation. I made no change to bg.

All IMHO of course Gary.....just an option

    Are there any clipped spots?

gary, nice BIF shot, I had the chance to shot these guys in FL and loved it - nice picture.

Dave's repost is lighter (boosting colors) and shows a sharper eye and beak - makes image stronger IMO.

    Well done.

    Nice capture Gary.
I agree that the bird is placed a bit too central in the comp and would suggest taking a bit of canvas away behind the bird and adding to the front.
Dave's repost does look better to me. I also prefer to shoot with the histogram further to the right to reduce the noise. (As below the wing in this pic)
Depending on the light I often set my exp comp to +1/3, 2/3 with the 1D mk3 without clipping when shooting egrets.

Super flying posture Gary. When shooting white birds, I feel different camera's produce different results. Thus its up to the individual to practise and see what settings work best. Hey, all the more reason to go back again. You can also check your histogram after each shot, or if you have your highlight mode on, showing you blown areas on your screen. Dave's post works well, and I would maybe sharpen the egret a tad more.

The EC depends on the sunlight conditions as well and the metering used.

Remembe APB, smart meter vs. dumb meter in eval mode.
