As I was imaging the hovering hunting techniques, noticed this was a popular waterside perch for spotting the prey. I layed down on boardwalk for better angle and prefocused on this perch. When birds flew in they almost always fluffed before setting off again to snap up another meal. Created in early soft light this past weekend at Wako. 1DMKIIN 400DO ISO 500 F5.6@1/1600
What a beautiful habitat, David. The soft light, the perfect whites and the beautiful BG all come together to create a very pleasing image.
On the picky side, I wish the bill didn't almost get confused with the dark part of the plant. Maybe you could dodge that?
Super SH. A perfect EXP. You might opt to loose the white specks on the bill. I'm with Fabs--the bill is a bit lost in the BKGR.

David, if you darken around the bill, it will get even more lost. If you have color control point, just lighten the dark part, or in the full size file, use the patch tool to get rid of the dark.
Thanks again Fabs; I thought shadow/highlight but not sure how that applies in critique. Relative to applying it during PS or how it came out of camera (isn't that exposure).
You have gorgeous light here. Yes the bill is a bit lost in the BG, but it is what it is. I don't agree with cleaning up the bill since sometimes it's those little nuances that I find endearing about a capture. It goes with the habitat theme IMHO. Thanks for sharing this gem.
I love the colors in the environment. You captured perfectly. I am 50-50 about the bill. Sometimes they can look just TOO clean. I like a bit of muck personally. :) Thanks for sharing.
