Thanks for sharing Mark. A very striking composition that brings back many memories of that memorable day in Pearl Harbor.
She's yare Mark,
What a beautiful lady, majestic in her class...I love it...thanks for sharing...:)
That seems to be the best place for the ship Mark !!! Years ago remember riding around the Iowa in small boat .. impressive !!!
I agree Al, it was awesome to see the Mighty Mo facing the Arizona, as if to say "I'm home, you will not be forgotten."
The tour isn't the same anymore, unfortunately. My first tour went around Ford Island and told of all the battleships that had been moored there on December 7th and what happened to them. A number of the ships were still resting at their moorings, though not upright. They also approached the Arizona on a wide arc, so you could get shots of all sides of the memorial. Today the ride is direct from the visitor's center to the memorial and photos are not encouraged as they were. It is more to keep the people moving than security, as they do not take your camera, unless maybe if you are totally obnoxious about their notification to move on. But it is still a very moving and impressive tour, from the time you walk in from the parking lot til you leave the base.
With all the time I spent on Oahu over the years, visiting my brother there, this remains the one place that I have to return to if ever I do get back.
Mark when I visited last in the mid nineties it was over and back but cameras were allowed. We also got a few minutes to wander around. It was tough and moving experience Wish everyone has a chance to visit.
I was also at the Memorial in Guadalcanal for the 50th anniversary, even got to talk to tow vets from the First Marine Division under Gen Vandergriff ... just which there were more hours in a day !!!

That's what it is now. But they took all the display items that were on the memorial and moved them to the visitor's center to make it easier to get around. It is now just open space as I will show in the next few days.
It isn't that cameras aren't allowed, they just don't like people stopping to take images when loading or unloading the boats. On my first visit there were fewer people and the ride out was about 15-20 minutes with the tour around Ford Island. It was a direct ride back to shore after the tour on the memorial.
By the way, I beat you by about 30 years! ;) My first visit was in '67. Back again in '75, '80 and '83, then had to wait until last year to return. We have to get closer to the 3-5 year cycle again! ;) :D
