    Default Buff-fronted Owl

The Buff-fronted Owl (Aegolius harrisii) is one of the rarest owls on Earth, and certainly the most rare one in Brazil. They are found in much of tropical South America, but with very scarce records. I was lucky to find this one last year on the Atlantic Rainforest of SE Brazil. They are pretty small, smaller than a screech-owl, but quite "chunky", and a great thrill to see.

I really like the bird and your flash work here. Great detail and colors.
Interesting fact about it too. Good to know.
I would suggest different crop and composition. I don't like the bird centered so much.
You've got enough sharpness and not much noise, so a vertical, more tight crop might
    easily work here.

Great find, I like the eye contact and that we can see the claws. The bird is a bit centered for my taste and I would like to see more separation between bird and BG. I don't think I have seen an image of this species before, thanks for sharing.

Going by your story, congrats on a great sighting and capture. Great flashwork, showing up the colours nicely. Love the direct eye contact. Maybe darkening the BG to get rid of some of the distracting foliage will work, to make the owl pop better.

Agreed about crop, too centered, but the rare and cute factors arguably forgive that omission. :) I love any owl, so you are alright with this presentation. :) One question, did you shoot straight up or at a steep angle? Just guessing by the position of those talons. That's all. Congrats on nailing this little fellow. :)

    Thanks for the comments all.

Akos, I shot at a very steep angle, not straight up but steep.
