    Canon EOS 5D - EF35-135/4-5.6 USM @ 135.0 mm - ISO 200 - - 1/200Sec. @ f/8.0 - Metering Mode Spot - Exposure Compensation +2/3

    This was shot on the north shore of Oahu, in a beach parking lot. Hence the background. But thought it was an interesting bird, so BG didn't play in the decision to shoot it.

    Agree with you its worth making the image He head turn does it for me and might not be a bad image for a captioning contest !!!! btw when you come up with these opportunities hitting the ground flat is a good option .... as long as you won't get run over !!!!

    The whites seem a bit hot on this one. The other bird is a dove, probably a barred dove or zebra dove.

    Interesting shot, usually ground pictures do not work for me. Now that I understand you reasoning, thank you for sharing this interesting/colorful and beautiful bird. Like Al said, lower is usually better, but not always possible.
