    Default Lunch hour Swallows

    Hi

I was coming back into our office car park at lunchtime when I noticed half a dozen newly fledged swallows lined up on the fence. The adults were occasionally flying in to feed them. Unfortuately I only had about 15 minutes left of my lunch hour to try and get a photo of which the one below probably the best, but not the photo I had in my head to capture. However, I thought I would give it another go for an hour after work. So I sat staring at spreadsheets all afternoon while the swallows were whizzing around in the sun outside. Unfortunately as the end of the working day approached so did a darkening sky which turned into a downpour at leaving time.

Hopefully I will be able to get back across to the office carpark over the weekend for another try. At least I now know why they are called 'swallows' ;)

Taken with 1Dmk3 and 500mm lens at ISO400 F4.5 at 1/2000s from my car.

    Cheers

awesome behavior image Rich......I would place a few branches along that board,
and hope to get a swallow to land on one.

Might darken eye a tad on young one

Stunning image - apart from the wooden man-made perch, this is stunning - amazing interaction captured! Well done and good luck with capturing the image you are after.

Very well timed to capture the feeding moment. Both sharp where it counts, and Dave suggestion regarding a branch is good.

Thanks for the replies. The suggestion of a branch for the young to sit on is a good one although there are not mant spare lying round our office car park. However I have never seen a young swallow perched on anything but a fence, telephone wire or length or barbed wire. I was going to have another go at them over the weekend but have been too busy, so I think I will make an early journey to work tomorrow to see if I can catch up with them again.

    cheers

    Rich
