I like the sharpness and lighting of this image, great eye contact..but the crop is a little odd with one wing missing.

I understand that the only way to show exquisite detail such as this is to crop/frame closer than a full wingspread. the exposure and detail here is sublime Stephen. I would add in some sky to the right, a bit too square for me?

I must vote for a little more room too, otherwise the detail blows me away, and there is GREAT eye contact!

I like the pose and eye contact. but tail is just got too much close to end.
one wing cut to show the detail is okay for me but giving room to left is for sure as the tail is so tight.

Another vote for adding a bit of room at the left. I like the crop a lot. The eye contact and details on the feathers are really outstanding!

I like the light, details and eye contact. I'm also wondering what a slightly looser crop would look like.

Super stuff Stephen - It is hard when these birds fly close to give a good comp. I like this but agree a bit more room to right might improve this a bit!

Brilliant detail on that head, chest, and nearer wing Stephen - super sharp. Looks like you had fun there. I would think of adding to the right and bottom, but still well captured.

Thank you all for the feedback and comments. It is always great to get feedback and even more so on composition which to me is all important.

When I originally decided on the tight comp my thinking was that going tight would make up for the lost wing. A looser crop seems to add to the feel that something's missing, while the tight crop draws one straight to the eye (focal point) and then the feather detail.

Personally I prefer the tighter crop as it shows more detail and gives one more of a feel of what it's like to be right next to a flying vulture ... which is the point of the photograph.

Here is a repost though with more room. What do ya think?

I can see your point, in the repost it looks like a clipped wing, I might try a crop that only adds a little bit room at the left but not much.

Stephen, well done, this works for me with the added space.

    Hi Stephen,
    Ditto comments on detail etc.
Have you thought of a pano crop with both wings clipped?
Something like this: (done very quickly so could be adjusted for better balance, just an idea)

Dave, yeah I considered it. I feel however that the primaries on the left wing add to the image???

Certainly not an easy comp this!

While it is an unusual composition I tend to like it as presented originally. Need some time to digest it but should work. Details are nice.
