Just returned from two trips to Poland and Ireland to do some bird photography and had a great time. Unfortunately Krijn and I could go during the same week, so he went one week earlier...really curious what he brought home. Here's a photograph from Ireland. Nothing special, but I liked the pose of this beautiful bird. I'll post something more creative later this week.

    Hi Mital,

Thanks for your comments. Don't get me wrong...I'm happy with this photograph. But having photographed Gannets more than once, images like this often lack one important ingredient: the photographers identity. It is a nice photograph of a nice bird in a nice pose in nice light...but that's it. It does not reflect my personal emotions while creating this photograph, and that is what I usually look for in my photography. So that is why I'd call it "noting special"....

I like the space you gave this subject. Good feel to this and as you said, nice pose.

Jasper, the pose along with that look make this quite a fine image. The details in the whites are great as well, beautiful.

    Hi buddy,

Am almost home! Doing this from Lisbon airport. I do love the shot, everything looks excellent. The look, the wing position the colours all look fabulous. I don´t completely agree with your statement about a photographers true identity. I think that quality in a photo can also reflect a photographers identity; why did you choose to show this photo and would any of us have chosen the same one in that way doesn´t this say something about you as a photographer? I do agree that it is not the most artistic shot or reflects a gannet flying in to land within the colony, but saying that it would be nothing special because of that is too easy I think. I have been to the same place now and know that shots like this don´t seem to special after a while because it is relatively easy to get them, but man it is an excellent shot nonetheless. Be proud/happy with this one!!!

    see you soon!

Hi Jasper I understand your thoughs about this image, and yes, it looks great to me but I am sure that you have a lot of images very similar to this one: same species, same action, same place and I understand that you are looking for something different. I experienced exactly the same thing many times, in example, last year I went to photograph eurasian rollers to a place that it is frequently visited by a lot of european photographers. As a result of my visit, I bring back home a lot of beautifull images but since them, I have seen lots of images of the same bird, with the same perch, and the same light conditions and now I am not very happy with that images. It is great to look for creativity :-)
Hope to see more images from you and Krijn from the trip

Excellent pose, exposure, and sharpness. Is the sky colour representative of what you saw? Just seems almost too vibrant!

I like the pose and details. There is a S/H halo around the wing tips on my monitor and the tail looks a bit jagged. It sounds as if you had a great time. What species did you photograph in Poland?

Would you mind sharing one of those with us? :)
