I had this old file of the sailing oyster boat A.J. Meerwald. The shot was OK but nothing special. I worked it in Topaz Simplify and manipulated the edge settings till it had a good feel to it. I then output only the edges channel and added a gradient layer in PS. I rotated the gradient to come from the upper right corner and then reduced the opacity of the gradient layer until it felt right. As always all thoughts and guidance are appreciated.
Dave, One of your best! I like the entire image. It really has an old boat feel. I like the rolled sails and the treatment is super-Great job with this!!!
Thanks Denise and Dave. I'll agree that it is a busy image, but that is also the nature of the rigging on these oyster boats. I think the absence of the different colors and textures may be adding to the busyness of the scene. There just isn't that seperation of tones. At any rate, I feel really pleased with the effect, and appreciate your thoughts..
Very well one illustrative look. I may favor a bit less of blue all around, but it is your vision that counts.
The artist, I feel, has complete power of what he wants to express :)
Thank you Fabs and Fred. I was undecided about the amount of blue to leave in the shot. you are right that it does look just as good with the blue a bit more subdued. It is truly a personal taste thing. For Akos, thank you also, and here is the starting point for this image.
