    Default Killdeer

I always wanted to take pic of Killdeer, tried several times but it was very difficult to get a good shot even with 400mm. But this time I got lucky and it appracohed me with a curiosity. One shot that's what I could take of and there was no time to adjust the Av or the Exposure. Hence, I feel the tip of the beak is not sharp enough.
The dreamy yellow feeling at the bottom is bcoz of OOF dried up grass.

    EOS 50D
    100-400mm @ 400
    ISO - 400
Exp - -1 (I was shooting egret just before this pic and forgot to change the exposure back)
    Av - f/6.3
    Shutter speed - 1/2000

Like always, i would like to know your opinion on this.

Pose, details and BG look good. The image has a strong magenta cast which seems to be typical for the 50D. Have you made some images in this series at a slightly higher angle that shows the feet, too?

Nagesh this is awesome shot you managed to get with 400. nice close.

    two points to check ..

    1. some CCW rotation required
    2. the white's need little work and some H&S can improve.

hope you like the quick edited repost

the OOF grass in front distracts a bit for me, and also wish there was more of the feet visible. head and eye are sharp and the plumage is nicely exposed, though. the 100-400 L IS USM is at its sharpest from f7.1-f8.0 for wildlife and that would've given you enough DOF for the entire bird.

Very nice. To correct the color cast, set white point where shown here. I used 242.242.242.

Second everything said above. lovely low angle. I always have trouble getting very close to them. My max focal length is 420. So this impresses me even more.

Nicely done Nagesh, and good suggestions by the BPN community on how to improve things.

Great work David. What method do you use to set the white point?

Thanks, Art. I just use levels. Set the white dropper to 242.242.242 (or other values in some cases) and click the hottest spot in the whites.

Great low angle here. Lovely pose and I am not fussed about not seeing the feet. Congrats!

Given the ruff & tumble of getting this shot, well done.

I dont mind the OOF FG, but would liked to have seen the feet. Super low angle, and love that eye.
