Posting this for purposes of illustrating a point. Flies perched near white flowers are almost impossible unless you use a diffuser/have perfect light.
In this case I did not either one but managed a histogram that was not blinking. When looking at the finished image for posting I'm sure there would have been some comments to whites being on the edge or with little detail. All was under 255 but the comment would have been right on the money !!
On solution would be to go to Select> color range > and place the eye dropper on the white petal then adjust the fuzziness. Feather your selection, from 5 to 15 pixels depending on the size of the selection and image. Right after hit command + J (control on PC ) to make a layer then change the layer from normal to multiply... now you can change the opacity to taste. Will give you enough detail to look pleasing and natural.
Comments welcome and much appreciated

The techs. are right on the money Mr. Forns...:D Love that fly now I know him...this is Henry's cousin Billy...:)
Super fine details on Billy, very good use of your macro flash system, the dark green background makes Billy look like a star...
good good tip Alfred.....also, I believe the wide feathering is blending
adjacent pixels that may not be hot and bringing down the final selection brightness.
That's a good thing.
