I don't know why....but this skimmer just has the look of a bad televangelist! He was bathing and I captured this unusual angle while he was drying off. Had to patch out a small bird protrusion in the LL corner.
Canon 1D Mark lll with the Sigma 300-800 at 800mm for 1/2500 sec. at f6.3 and ISO 800 all tripod mounted/wimberly head. Slight crop off top and bottom. Bright overcast conditions.

Now the best light here and you can maybe light it up a bit. You also have a very small halo around the blacks of the wings

    Preaching or orchestra leader?
I can hear Beethoven played in the BG. I can't believe how wide his face looks, like he's blowing on something.
Good lighting conditions for this particular color scheme. Great timing :)
And good job of showing the eyes!

Great timing and like that you got the water still around the bird !!! Beautiful pose and detail ... particularly seeing the eyes !!!

    Hi Roman,

This is very interesting, unusual Skimmer image. Very nice pose, direct eye contact, low level. Congratulations.

You couldnt have been more head on to capture this. Great eye contact, the low angle works well, and only wish the left wing was fully extended to form a perfect symmetry.

Cool pose, I'm sure he wanted to show you how big the fish was he almost caught. :) I might crop a bit off the bottom.

it's easy to tell if it was trying to be a televangelist or a conductor.
    a. was it looking intensely focused and obtuse?
    orchestra conductor
    b. was it asking you for $1000 gift whilst sporting diamond cuff links?
    televangelist
    ;)
