    Default Juvenile Black-necked Stilt

I found this little guy at Cameron NWR in SE Louisiana. I almost didn't make the trip through the NWR because it was about 10 miles out of the way. My week consisted of a little over 2,000 miles of driving (for work) so needless to say I had to give myself a stern talking to just to convince me to go a little out of the way :D I'm glad that I did. I've got some nest shots of a momma B-n Stilt as she is centering herself on the nest. The nest had 4 eggs on it. The shot of the juvenile B-n Stilt was taken about 10 minutes prior to seeing the nest and it was the only one of the brood. Mom was close by trying to get it to move away from the one-eyed thing staring at it :) but it liked the camera and stayed close. Considering that there were four eggs on the nest and only one baby with the other Stilt the mortality rate must be pretty high for these guys :(

Cute little chick! Sharpness looks good. The OOF plant in the bottom middle of the frame is a little distracting, as is all the stuff in the water. I also wish for a bit more eye contact.

I have never seen a juvie before. Good sharp fluffy detail, and agree with Doug regarding the distractions.

Can't escape the cuteness factor here, Michael. There are some hot whites from the side lighting. A lower viewpoint from further to the right, if possible, may have addressed some of the issues raised by Doug as well as reducing the side lighting.
