I photographed these last Sunday at Ding Darling. I used my Sony A100 with a Sigma 50-500 lense. Data = f/6.3, 1/2500, +1.0 ev, ISO 400, 500mm.
I welcome all C & C's. Thanks for looking, John

I quite like the tonal renditon of this image. I would suggest brightening the area around the eye of the near spoon, sharpening both of the spoons a bit more and cropping some off the bottom (beware of virtual leg though).
Hi John,
I like the composition and capture. I like the dark background...agree with lightening up the eye area and selective sharpening it on both birds...you have good details and good color rendition...I would have liked to have seen the bill on the spoony not touching the other one...looking forward to your next one...
the bill overlapping is a good point by gus. i think losing the light on the forebird doesnt help either. john, the sweet spot on that lens is between f/8 and f/11. you had enough ss to get to f/8 for sure. you will see sharper images with better detail in that zone with that lens. try it out. would love to hear your feedback.
Great points Main thing is lightening the face (easy) .. also a separation would have been nice. Love the overall feel and tonal range !!! Very fine image !!!
Thanks guys for all your feedback. I had my shutter speed set at 1/2500 to try and get some flight shots and spotted these two both raising their bills and by the time I pulled the trigger the front bird brought down his bill.
I will keep the aperture range in mind Harold, thanks. I am still strugling with photoshop to try and work on selective lightening and selective sharpening. Most of my post processing is with Apples Aperture. John
Great base image John, techs covered, and separation of the bills would have put it right up there. A little more fine tuning will make it a great image. BTW, How do you like Aperture??? (I have the same program)
Jackie,
Thanks, I like Aperture. I am still learning all you can do with it . But I feel I am at a disadvantage not knowing how to use photoshop. I cannot do selective sharpening and lightening with Aperture unless I am missing something. I am self teaching myself and it is not an easy way to go.
John
John I have both Aperture(on my Mac laptop) and PS(on my PC). I haven't used Aperture enough to give it a real tryout. If you go to Images/Edit With/Dodge and Burn there is a whole drop down menu which has sharpening as one of the selections which you can use as a brush, plus some other ones too. You could explore plug-ins and maybe you could get a feature where you could lighten.
For 200 it does give you a lot of features, and there online tutorials I found were very good. (Under the Help Section) Still on the whole I like PS better but the price is up there. I would like PS and Bridge together offered as a package.
