    Default Field Sparrow on Thistle

Photographed in a local meadow a few days ago. There were some thin clouds and this bird was singing all the time. The tricky part was to approach him slowly without disturbing him. He obviously kept an eye on me. :)

You amaze me how you manage to capture these poses, different and interesting perches, and the lovely colours throught your images. Axel, comp wise, I would have had less space at the bottom, and more on top, as he is facing upwards. Not a nit, just a personal choice. BTW, congrats on another fine image.

Stunning pose. Love the flower and BG. I wonder how this one would look with a small crop on bottom.

Nice! Because it's simple, only a bird and a flower, it's so beautifull!

Great image and simple. You said you stalked this bird and not setup and that is very impressive to catch him on a photogenic perch.
I would have left a little more room above for a masthead in the future.
Im on a laptop and difficult to evaluate brightness-color,etc.

Axel this one is much better than the previous one (in my opinion). I love the color of the flower and the simple composition. Very good job

Nicely handled. Would have shortened the stem a bit to accentuate the flower and the bird..

Lovely looking colours Axel. Good for you to make the most of the opportunity. I fell that cropping just above the small tendril makes it even simplier. Very nice and well done. Dave

It is a rare event that we get to comment on one of your images Axel but it's a pleasure because you give so much in comments on other's.

This is outstanding in my mind. A difficult species caught in a great pose, in action, on a perfect perch with a perfect BG. The only controversial issue here is how much of the flower stalk to include and I think there are several "answers" to this question, including Axel's. What were your thoughts Axel, when your cropped where you did- in camera or in processing?

I wish we SAW Field Sparrows locally let alone photograph them!

Thanks, John! When I lived in Massachusetts I didn't see field sparrows, either. In this meadow there are also grasshopper sparrows and indigo buntings and even blue grosbeaks.

I experimented with different crops, originally I had more room at the top. The reason I left more room at the bottom is that I really liked the way this crop looks proportionally. The other reason is that the bottom of the stalk is vertical and it looks as if the weight of the sparrow makes the upper part bend to the left. If I cropped off the bottom it would look as if the image needs CW rotation and the bird would not have this posture as if he works really hard to be heard.

Hey Axel, I can see your reasoning, by your explaination, for leaving the comp as is. Makes sense, and originally, I didnt see it. Cheers, Stuart.
