Question Recovered pics corrupted? Need help.

    Hello:

I accidentally deleted a couple hundred pictures from a CF card on a recent trip to Alaska. I "undeleted" them from the CF card back onto my laptop with an undelete program. They are NEF files (the Nikon version of RAW). This seemed to go smoothly but unfortunately I can't open the files on Nikon Capture. I can view the thumbnail of some of the pics but not others. The data seems to be present as each file is about 10mb. When I try to search out an answer on the Internet I just get a million commercial sites for "Undelete programs". If anyone has any ideas or starting points to try to recover these files I would be most greatful for any advice.

    Thanks

Did your undelete program retain the file suffix (.NEF) so that Capture can know it is a RAW file? Other option is to try opening the file using Capture's open command and selecting the file.

Are you clicking on it trying to get it to open. If the suffix is different this will not work. Are you on a MAC or PC? File assignments and what program the computer uses to open a file is generally based on the suffix.

Sandisk has a great rescue program that you can use on the card, assuming you have not written over them already that will recover the file with the name intact. GO to http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Prod...spx?CatId=1186.

There are a couple of freeware recovery tools, are you on a Mac or PC?
