This was from Nickerson Saturday.......heavy overcast although brightening steadily during course of day......coming in for drinks in the rain puddles. Wish for a bit more DOF as I loved the angle but wasn't pushing past ISO 1600.....even though I have been there with the night shots.
Canon 1D Marklll with the Sigma 300-800 at 610mm for 1/1000th of a sec at f5.6 and ISO 1600. Tripod mounted, Wimberly Head. Slight crop rear and bottom.

Pretty darn good for ISO 1600. Gotta love that Mark III. Your whites look a little hot in places; you might have been able to go with a lower ISO and brought the whites under control (assuming you were using manual exposure). As presented, I'd be tempted to do a black levels adjustment to darken the blacks a bit.

Nice angle, and good job on the exposure, although the whites are a tad hot on the tail area. Pretty good for ISO 1600 although there is some noise around the neck. As for the comp, I would add some space in front and maybe at the top.

    Roman,
Nice action. I like the pose. I too wish for a higher dof however you were already at ISO 1600.

    Cheers,

    Hi All,
Thanks for the comments.....as you know I like the tight crops so that may be tough for me.....but an easy adjustment. Tail does have some hot pixels.....but I felt it ws ok.
    Mark,
I just blew it up in PS to 700%......I didn't see the halo......so not sure there. I double checked the tiff also......it has a fine highlight from the lighting.....so not sure on that one.

Roman, the halo might not be on the original file, but it is here on the web version - possibly caused by sharpening once resized.

Great pose and comp. Well exposed here. Like the eye contact. I can also see a halo. Clearly seen over the blacks. Well done on this....just have a look at the halos

Great pose and eye contact. Another vote for darkening the blacks. I see the halo but it's not too bad because of the gray water.

Ditto Doug on the blacks. But you certainly did great at such high ISO. Love the BG and would be tempted to clone a few dark small blobs in it. jc

Iso 1600? Excelent! Love the great natural moment, sharpnes, detail, soft light, pose, colors and exposure.
What can you say about that lens? I've always been curious about it.
    Congratulations!

Love it, especially the bill slicing through the water, but like the repost better.... That's a rain puddle? Looks like the friggin" Atlantic Ocean!

    Hi all,
Thanks for the comments and will explore the tweaks!
Hey Artie,....you gave me the laugh for the day! Some of the puddles at Nickerson......are 100yds. long......but only about 4 inches deep max. especially after the rains we've been having. I see the eye doctor fix.......anything else?

I Linear Burned the bright whites near the tail (after using the clone stamp to get rid of the 7 hot pixels). And I made the blacks a lot blacker. Those puddles remind me of Bethpage yesterday. Go Tiger!

ps: I used a split neutral density filter for the first time in AK, and get this, I used it upside down! Will post in landscapes later today.
