Is anyone using BreezeBrowser Pro with a netbook-sized computer?
I'm thinking of purchasing one to take on my overnight photographic journeys. I'd be using it to download cards and viewing on BBPro. I do not anticipate doing any post-processing, although doing some RAW-to-TIF conversions (which I do normally do in BBPro on my desktop) might be in the cards. Since I'm still in the research phase of the process, whatever I buy needs to run Win XP, have an internal drive of 160 GB and 2 GB of RAM.
Hi Chris, I have a Samsung NC10 and have installed Breeze Browser Pro, Downloader Pro and Picasa so that I can download and scan through files while away from home. I only use these to cull images and do not do any processing until I get back. I have only used this once sofar but had no problems whatsoever.
I do not know what a netbook is but if it is running XP then running BrBr should not be a problem...

Artie, a "Netbook" is an ultra small dedicated laptop with about a gig of RAM and an 8 - 10 inch screen. There is no optical drive, but a few USB ports. They are very light weight, but come with only a 160 Gig drive, so cameras with large file sizes will have to have an external drive along with the netbook.
Thanks Ed. 160 gb should be plenty for a two week trip even if you do not edit.... On my week long bear boat trip I kept 8gbs and on my 6 week SUV trip only 15gbs of keepers....

I have an Acer Aspire One with 160 GB HD, 1GB Ram and WIN XP. It runs BreezeBrowser and Downloader Pro just fine. I have yet to try Lightroom on it but was planning to. I would suggest opting for the larger battery if one is sold. I got the 12-cell battery with mine and it goes for almost 6 hours. Less with lots of disk activity. Real workout will be my Alaska Bear workshop in August.
I just got an MSI Wind and added another stick of RAM for 2gb. It seems to run Breeze Browser just fine. I do not plan on forcing it to run Lightroom, though--I'm planning to use it only for in-field editing (weed whacking) but not toning or other DAM tasks. I'll save those until I get home.
I spent a few hours yesterday looking at a variety of netbooks: Dell, Acer, Asus and HP, and realized that the screen size was just too small for my liking. However, I will probably end up buying an HP with a 12.1" screen; still lightweight at less than 4 lbs., had 3GB RAM and a 320 GB hard drive for well under $500...
My last two HP Pavillions have proved to be 100 times more durable than my previous Toshibas which were almost always in need of repair for physical issues.

I've just researched netbooks, trying to find the "ideal" one for travel photography. No such thing! I think the major stumbling block, if you need to do any processing, including Lightroom, and especially Photoshop, is the limit of 1 GIG of RAM with most. Some can take 2 GIG. The Atom processor may also not be great for processing. For simple downloading and culling, most netbooks are probably fine. Although most have screen res of 1024x576, the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 has an option for 1366x768. One other detail about the netbooks - none has a firewire port for downloading, but usually have 2 or so USB's. Apparently a firewire card can be used with some of them.
