    Default "Nevermore..." - DOF assignment

I had just finished taking pictures of the waterfall at Artist's Point, where you get a spectacular view of the lower falls at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. It was raining (rained all week!) and I was getting back in my car when this bad boy landed on a rock right next to me. What else could I do but snap a few shots? Stopped down to f/8 because this is a big bird and wanted the DOF and the BG was far enough away to allow it.

Converted in ACR then CS4 for final sharpening and so on...

    50D, EF70-200mm f/2.8 @ 200mm
    Aperture priority, f/8@1/30 ISO 100
AI servo AF using back button, HH no flash

I really like Kerry. Sharp and great composition. Black in a bird is not easy and you nailed it.

Hi kerry - you have done well with the black bird - love the raindrops and the sheen to the feathers.
Fantastically sharp and great details - Bg works well - might try and darken the white area's just a tad.
    good show :)

Terrific detail! I may be new at this, but for me this is what avian photography is all about: Arousing the fascination of the casual observer by revealing the beautiful details in these amazing animals. (And also to inspire beginners like myself!)

    what a shot this is.
Generally in our region (INDIA) crow's are not been accepted but looking at this image I am flattened off by the fantastic capture of details and a pose.

Too good and thanks for sharing this image.

The details are impeccable, and the light was just right to show the oily sheen on the feathers. Great job!

Love the detail captured and the subtle iridescence. I might darken the pupil just a little. Well done Kerry!

Not bad for a rainy day shot:). Very nice Kerry! Like Doug's idea about darkening the pupil.

Super image! I would also tone down the white spots in the BG. Lovely detail on the bird.
    Perfect DOF.

Kerry - Gosh, I don't know how you could make this better. I'm totally impressed with the detail. On my best
day with a tripod and remote switch I can't get this sharp an image. And crows are my favorite - they have
    such personalities. Beautiful:D
