From my local beach this evening. It is very tidal and currents carve out valleys in the rocky sand. I created this image by getting down lower than my foregound, trying something a little different.

Should I sharpen the head a little more? I didn't want it to look crisp.

Nice idea and soft light. I would sharpen it more, if done carefully it won't look crisp. I would also crop some from the left, and maybe, the top.

I really want to see one of these guys one day!

Hi Grace! Very nice image, exposure looks right on. If you don't want the image to look too crisp do some selective sharpening (mostly the eye). A sharp eye will give an image an overall feeling of sharpness. I'm going to agree on taking off some from the left and top. It all depends on your taste and the mood you're trying to create.

In my opinion, the adjusted image that I have attached makes for a much more intimate image. I've also sharpened the eye a tad. It's a bit of a crop...

Love to see that you're getting down and dirty and making some personal images.

Very nice image. Live the colors and the smooth feeling.
Blake's repost works better for me as moved the bird off center.

Thanks for everyone's kind words, and Blake, for your help. I got stuck on liking that green plant on the left, but you got me past seeing that as an integral element. That little extra sharpening is just what it needed.

I knew when I first looked at the image that the foliage was the reason for the crop. It felt like you wanted to use it to frame your subject. Had there been similar OOF foliage on the opposite side the original crop could have worked well.

I always enjoy viewing your images.

I like the idea, light and head angle. Blake's repost makes it even better, the crop and additional sharpening work well.

Grace, great show of DOF, and love the low angle. Good exposure, and I like the OOF BG too. Blake has done a good job with the repost.
