    Default Common Rose Swallowtail (c)

Good morning to all!:) This is another from my trip to Gainesville Saturday. Taken with the D300, Nikon 70-300VR with a 20mm ext tube, f16, iso 500, 1/60 with fill. C&C welcomed as always:).

I kept looking at this and concluded it was a tad dark, so increased brightness just a bit.

I just saw the repost and like the butterfly but you brought everything up and the backround seems more defined to my eye as opposed to muted. I prefer the original. If it were mine I would get rid of the brown area between the tail.

    Thanks Dave for the relook.

    Nancy:

The last repost is the best. Good input from Dave.
I am curious how much of a crop this is, not that the quality is suffering, just interested in how close you can get to the subject with this setup?

    Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Randy!:) Now, as far as the setup. I would say I was about 11 to 12 inches from the subject with the 20mm ext tube. I have a 36mm ext tube, but have not tried that yet. I find it to be very versitile, especially if tripods are not allowed as is at this place in Gainesville. I did not crop much on this, maybe 10% was cropped.

    Thanks Nancy:

Good that you can get them to sit tight for you at that distance. Perhaps they are used to people. I have used several setups, and like to be able to work out a bit more to reduce the risk of spooking them.

    Cheers

The last repost is definitely the keeper, Nancy. That brown spot below the tail was making me crazy! Beautiful definition on this one just like the others.

I would bet the 36mm is going to be too limited a DOF for what you're trying to do here. I've found if you want a little room from your subject the 12mm & 20mm are the way to go. If you want to fill the frame with one wing, throw on the 36!

Thanks Jules! After taking that brown spot out I am not sure how I let it go in the first place:confused:. I think I will use the excuse of the heat again:D:p.
