Now this is something I had never seen, since I'm used to seeing them getting fish. I though it was cute and for sure, they must eat a lot of those. He cleaned up in a few minutes and got rid of about 6 Halloween Pennants that were haning in the area. Good thing I got to photograph them before the catastrophe

I've never seen them go after anything but fish, either! Wonderful capture and lovely exposure, Fabs. I can almost feel the tension in his neck!

I know you are the Publisher but I must glorify this image. :D
Love how whites are handled and the prey is rather unique. Well framed.

The dragonfly sets this image apart IMO. I love the all grass setting too. The whites look perfect.

I like the DOF in this Fabs, together with the low angle. Super forward strike to capture the dragonfly. Well spotted and captured.

Cool pose and the dragonfly really makes this one. Does it need a bit CCW rotation?

Great image Fabs, nicely framed and balanced. Good exp. I have seen Great Egrets hunt out of water locally. Though I must say I was not privileged to observe them catching prey. But I suspect they go for similar morsels as our Cattle Egrets.

I like the composition but the body looks just a tad hot.

I love this great habitat and behavioral shot, It's amazing how steady these guys can stand when hunting, you can almost take a 2 sec long exposure and it will be tact sharp!

A couple of months ago I saw one with some sort of rodent in its bill, so they definitely will eat food other than fish. (No photo, unfortunately.)
