Default Magnolia Warbler belting it out.

I had a bonus day off today so I did the most logical thing I could think of...that is to drive up to the cottage for some warbler action:). Although I had seen Magnolias there before, today was the first time I had the chance to properly photograph one. I also saw (but did not photograph) the following warblers: Black-throated Green, Blackburnian, Ovenbird, Black-and-white, Pine, as well as Veery, Wood and Hermit Thrushes, Red-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos. It then also hailed heavily for about 30 minutes, with good accumulation (1/2 inch, yikes! good thing the hail pellets were only pea-sized...) An interesting day.

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/125s., f/6.3, ISO 640, no EC, handheld, audio + blind.

He does look loud and proud. I like the pose and how he's angled on the same line as the branch. Color & texture of the pine perch adds a nice touch.

Daniel, as I opened your image, my eye glanced to your avatar. How is that for a coincidence. Not the same species, but very, very similar poses. Good exposure on the little guy, and like the contrasting colours. Super angled calling pose, and stands out very well from the BG.

Terrific pose and perch. Nice job with the exposure.

Thank you Darren. The image is cropped minimally only to help the composition (it is about 90% full-frame). By using audio and being concealed in a blind the warbler came down to about 10 feet away from my position.
