This is a Rosy Maple Moth- Dryocampa rubicunda, found under a porch light last night at Sackville, New Brunswick. This species is in the family Saturniidae which includes the silk moths. The colours are quite remarkable!

I think if I saw this land on an orange or purple flower I'd have a heart attack and die on the spot! Wow...is that a beautiful insect! Love the diagonal comp and the details of the fuzzy areas are wonderful. Perfect image...unless that imaginary purple flower had been nearby!

    John:

Very nice, sharp, well exposed, and a heck of a subject. I love the detail. It looks almost like a stuffed animal, all soft and fuzzy, with pipe cleaners for antenna! The purple looks like it was painted on with watercolors!

    Thanks for sharing this one!
