So in the last months I have being shoting birds. First target was to know where to get them. Then I could make my first shots... blurry, far, unastethical,....,but I could finally have birds shots. In the last months I have improved (BPN is the key), so now I can consistently shot better, and get nice results like this one.
4 months go, I should have been extremely happy to get this one, but I have changed my bird photo taste. So when I look at this pic the only thing I can say is: NICE, BUT BORING.
What I mean is that I remain interested only in those action shots with meaning, ie hunting, feeding, nuptial parades, weird flights, .... wich I must admit are really really difficult to get with my actual gear.

So I'm concerned and excited. Concerned about my own feelings on static pics, and excited because to get action shots will mean lots of learning to do....

    Am I just too frikie?

    Hi Jose,
First of all, I like your capture...the color rendition is good, the eye is a tad soft, the focus point was not on the eye. The bird is too centered, need to off set your subject...I like the natural perch, adding a splash of color...as far as shooting style, mixed with compositional elements, its a matter of time and practice...practice, and practice. You are doing quite well, just keep it up...granted the equipment helps in certain situations; but its really the photographer behind the camera...after awhile, your learning curve will become shorter and shorter, and then its where the maintenance factor comes into play...by practicing and practicing even more so to stay on top of your game...we are constantly learning and improving...I congratulate you on your constant improvement...keep up the good work...:)

way to go, jose!! i know you have worked hard to get this one and you should be proud.

as far as your question, here's how i see it. there are so many nature photographers around now that are constantly out in the field. with everyone shooting all the time someone is going to get that great image. it just so happens that a lot of those people are here at BPN and you see fantastic images all the time. static images are good to have. you live in the canary islands and may have access to species we dont have here in the states, so any capture of a non-native species would be very interesting. i know i'm rambling so i will stop.

remember what ansel adams said. if i make twelve photos that mean something in a year, it was a great year. or something like that.

    keep up the great work.

Hi Jose - like this a lot - have a look at your first post and compare it to this - well done my friend.

What i ahve found that as you improve, you are always thinking about how you could do it better or make a better shot or get better action etc etc - What I thought was a good shot a year ago - I would not even bother converting from RAW now - It means you are learning and growing and improving.

    Keep em coming :)

    Hi Jose

The other image types you are mentioning are just a different kind and I like to judge each on its own merit ... no better or worse.

I know some of the dynamic images can bring a sense of emotion but I would not turn my back on ones like you just posted. I call them bird on a stick. Some people like Alan Murphy specialize in them and rarely do anything else.

Personally I would be bored doing just one type ... any type.... but certainly try all.... and btw would always go for best available !!!!

I have been thinking about my own words.... I didn't mean that the static shots are boring. Actually it's exciting to get them. But what I meant, is that , that is not my main target now. I take the satic shot first of all, and then wait till those static subject develope any signficant behavior. This last situation is the most challenging.
I hope I didn't sound pretentious. My respect to any kind of bird shoting. It's my character. I need challenges to improve and bird photography is full of them. So I have fun for years to come!!
BTW, I have joined some photo sites that can help you to improve, but BPN is by far the best educational resource I know, and I'm sure the key is this moderator's team and every member who contributes to forums. My grtitude to all them.

Agree with Alfred 100%.What you choose to concentrate on is a personal goal. My opinion is one should strive to be the best they can at achieving that goal. When one tires of a method of photography and expresses it by calling it boring, it communicates a diminishment of it's worth...
