    Default Canon 1200mm f5.6

The other day the B&H Used Photo Gear Department gave me the incredible opportunity to make LensCoat for the one of the longest and rarest full autofocus lenses in the world. It was quite an experience working with a lens that when in it's case wouldn't fit in the back of my 4Runner without putting the seats down. Of course I told B&H that it was extremely critical that I field test the LensCoat to make sure it performs properly . With my insurance agent standing close by I deftly maneuvered this 38in long 36.4lb monster around my backyard in search of worthy subjects (birds and bunnies.) It's a good thing the 5dmk2 I borrowed had a camera strap on it.

This lens doesn't come with IS or DI (Image Stabilization or Disability Insurance) so I soon opted for a a sturdy tripod.

Juan Pons and Art Howard were on hand to see and video the "Making of the 1200mm LensCoat." BTW- the video was shot with the 5dmk2

Scott, this is fantastic. I am glad you put your paws on the monster. What a beast, indeed.

My wife the choice is the lens or her; not both  :( :D

And, my LensCoat looks good on my 300 f/2.8.

I will have a hard enough time convincing her that the next step is the 500 f/4

    Cheers,

Great little video, interesting to see how you make a lens coat. Which reminds me, must order a new one!

Look at the size of that thing! I'm in shock at the thought of carrying that baby around with you!

Thanks Scott for showing. This reminds me about the rather new 800 super tele lens from Canon. I couln't find any experience or discussion at the forum.

Artie is using this lens and has posted many photos with it on his blog and in emails.
