Default Too close for comfort (White Rhinoceros)

This was taken pretty much next to my vehicle.

    Canon 1000D with Tamron 70-300 Di lens @ 124mm
    f5.6 @ 1/500 @ ISO 400
Own nit - should have gone for f8.0 as this lens is sharper there. Didn't check my settings before shooting.

All critiques most welcome. I cloned out an ear tag from the rhino's left ear (and had to build in quite a significant piece of ear again) and also a blade of grass that protruded right in front of the mouth up to the horn base.

I like the portrait crop, definitely in your face! Exposure handled well, looks pretty sharp for web viewing.

    Excellent portrait Morkel !!!

Big advantage in getting so close ... dof !!! Did well with the ear reconstruction btw with these I would try focusing just in front of the eye to maximize dof Excellent image !!!!

Having a good old stare at you Morkel. Im never comfortable close to there guys. We got charged at Rietvlei one morning without provocation. Looks pretty sharp to me.

thanks Stu - this was actually at Rietvlei, there were about 6 of them and they were quite tranquil. but yeah they can be quite aggro. the other day in Kruger they were causing the owner of a laaarge 4x4 to back down :)

Great post-processing job on the ear and pleasant image. Depth of field is always a compromise and will be looking forward to more :)

    Morkel,
Nice image. I agree with Alfred regarding the focussing. Huge animal. f8 would have been good. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,
